Construction of the School Bore Hole

The history of the project

The school has a bore hole which was manually dug in 2017 it acts as an alternative water supply especially during the dry months when water is scarce.  The borehole is about 7 meters dip which is not cemented this leads to the absorption of affluent into the water system. This system can only supply water for 100 pupils the school had three to four years ago. We now have 303 pupils in the school and expect to have 540 in three years’ time, therefore this system cannot supply water to all of them and 50 supporting staff.

Recent developments of climate change and the increase of the water users have affected very much the availability of water at the school and the neighboring community. After doing research, we came to the conclusion that the best solution was building a well of a minimum of 20 m. By doing so we will guarantee the water supply and also improve the purity of the water. 

The pipe water supplied by the Arusha Urban Water Source and Sanitation Authority at Bethlehem Primary School is not reliable. 

The convenient source of water for the school and the nearby community especially during dry season is the school borehole which does not suffice the demand of the school.

Among our wish list project is the construction of the borehole at the school. The borehole at Bethlehem Primary School which is 7 meters deep, with a static water level of 5 meters has to be replaced by a bore hole of 20 meters. 

The new borehole will allow students and teachers to improve the cleanliness of all school facilities, including toilets, also to have enough water for the vegetable garden which is very important to the school children. 

The convenient source of water will improve student hygiene, in most cases girls are most impacted by this development of lack of enough water. Additionally, the surrounding community members will be able to come to the school to access the new source of water.

The total cost for construction of a bore holes electric pump, tanks and pipes is USD$ 4,000
