Nutrition - School Vegetable Garden

Nutrition - School Vegetable Garden

The school vegetable garden was established on July 2021 and was aimed at solving food problems of both the school and the society after the rise in price of food due to a direct affection of the Corona pandemic back in 2020.

The organic and healthy vegetables also were brought to solve problems caused by chemicals like herbicides and fertilizers to both human (food poisoning) and the soil (soil degradation).

The school vegetable garden project is aimed at supporting the pupils to improve their health and wellbeing through edible gardening and healthy eating activities. The School Garden is a wonderful way to use the school yard as a classroom.

Feeding the increasing number of children attending Bethlehem Star School is overwhelming to school Administrators. Coupled with the pandemic which has devastated the economy in Tanzania, the challenge will be bigger than before.

The School Vegetable Gardens Project is a fun, it is a hands-on learning program delivering pleasurable food and environment conservation education. With strong curriculum integration and a focus on student wellbeing, collaboration and leadership, students learn to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal, delicious food – forming positive food habits for life.

THE BENEFITS OF SCHOOL GARDEN PROGRAM.

The school garden initiative is a win-win situation because it will allow the children to enjoy a more nutritious and varied diet as well as a needed support to the school.

We believe that the children and families we serve need not only the programs that we offer, but the support to develop children to become self-sufficient when they are no longer enrolled in our programs. We are dedicated to enhancing families’ self-sufficiency and providing children with a foundation to be successful.
